Where to Find Good Pistachio Paste Dessert: Singapore vs Malaysia

As a pistachio enthusiast, I recently had the chance to compare two pistachio paste desserts — one from Yuen Yueng in Singapore and another from JustWant Dessert in Malaysia. Both had their own charm, but one clearly stood out.

Yuen Yueng (Singapore)

The Signature Pistachio Paste from Yuen Yueng, Singapore

Price: S$8.60

Rating: 4.5/5.0

Osmanthus Almond Milk Tofu from Yuen Yueng, Singapore

Price: S$5.20

Rating: 4.0/5.0

Yuen Yueng’s signature pistachio paste is an absolute treat. It’s thick, rich, and full-bodied, with a deep roasted pistachio flavor that immediately stands out. The texture is velvety smooth, and it strikes a great balance between natural nuttiness and just the right amount of sweetness. This is the kind of pistachio paste that feels indulgent — you can tell real pistachios were used generously.

I also ordered their Osmanthus Almond Milk Tofu, which paired beautifully. The almond taste was mild, not overpowering, and the tofu was incredibly silky. The Osmanthus syrup added a light floral sweetness that made the dish feel elegant and refreshing.

JustWant Dessert (Malaysia)

Pistachio Paste from JustWant Dessert in JB

Price: RM15.90 (SGD$4.80)

Rating: 3.8/5.0

Over in Malaysia, I tried the pistachio paste dessert at JustWant Dessert. While it was enjoyable, it leaned towards a lighter, creamier texture. The pistachio flavor was more subtle, which might appeal to those who prefer milder desserts, but for me, it lacked the richness and depth that I love in a good pistachio paste.

Verdict

Between the two, Yuen Yueng in Singapore wins hands down. For pistachio fans who crave that bold, nutty intensity and luxurious texture, this one delivers.

My Pick: Yuen Yueng – S$8.60 well spent.
JustWant Dessert’s version is lighter and more wallet-friendly, but not quite as satisfying if you love a richer paste.
